Lunchtime and Pop Culture Collide with Delicious Results

From Best Buns to Sauciest Talk Show Host, Americans Pick Celebrities with Star Quality
LOUISVILLE, KY - According to a recent poll of Americans, great buns aren't just found at Pepperidge
Farms . In fact, Mel Gibson and Jennifer Lopez have the "best buns" in
Hollywood with nearly 40 percent of the collective vote. They beat out Jean Claude van
Damme (13.5%) and Shania Twain (16.1%), according to the KFC® poll.
Americans were asked to match characteristics of their favorite
celebrities and recent films with qualities found in KFCs five new chicken
sandwiches:
- Most tender hearted celebrity
for the Tender Roast®
sandwich
- Triple feature
or the summer film you just cant see too
many times for the Triple Crunch® sandwich
- Zinger or the classic Hollywood "one-liner" for the
Triple Crunch® Zinger sandwich
- Most original celebrity
for the Original Recipe® sandwich
- Sauciest celebrity
, like originality, but with more attitude, for the Honey BBQ sandwich
- And, of course, since all KFC sandwiches are served on specially made
Pepperidge Farm® buns, Americans were asked to select winners in the category
of "best buns" (no explanation needed!)

KFC Sandwich Line Introduced in September
Tapping into the changing taste preferences of busy consumers,
KFC introduced five freshly made chicken sandwiches in September 1999. In its second
annual "Lunch Crunch" study, KFC discovered the on-the-go lunch is on the rise.
More than half (55%) of working Americans eat lunch on-the-go, compared to 42% in August
1997. Only three percent of those surveyed take the traditional hour-long lunch break.
KFCs Celebrity and Lunch Crunch Surveys were conducted in
September 1999 by Market Facts, a marketing research company headquartered in Arlington
Heights, Ill. A total of 1,000 men and women were surveyed randomly and unaided, yielding
a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
