World's Top Female Golfer Annika Sorenstam Tees Off For KFC® In Two New Ads Set To Debut Monday, July 7
LOUISVILLE, KY - Two-time U.S. Women's Open champion Annika Sorenstam is taking a swing at national advertising for KFC. Sorenstam will appear in ads that debut Monday, July 7 and highlight KFC Honey BBQ Wings and Boneless Wings.
During the last two years, popular sports figures such as Barry Bonds, William "The Refrigerator" Perry and Jim McMahon have appeared alongside Jason Alexander in ads for KFC. Recently, two of America's hottest reality television stars, Trista Rehn and Evan Marriott appeared with Alexander in spots for KFC Honey BBQ Boneless Wings. And now it's Annika Sorenstam's turn - with KFC once again capitalizing on today's pop culture headlines -showcasing KFC Honey BBQ Wings and new Boneless Wings.
The two versions of the ad, created by BBDO New York, feature Sorenstam on the golf course faced with a challenging decision - KFC Honey BBQ Wings or Boneless Wings? The commercials play on the controversy surrounding Annika's decision to compete on the men's tour at the Colonial - where she was the first woman in 58 years to compete in a PGA Tour. Both ads demonstrate the fact that no matter what you choose - everyone is a winner - now referring to both the original Honey BBQ Wings and the Boneless Wings.
Sorenstam is paired with Alexander in the first ad and two "regular" guys playing golf in the second version to be released later in the ad flight. The ads, which were shot at the Harbor Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, show a very playful side to Annika - a departure from her intense, competitive demeanor on the tour.
The :30 spots will air July 7 through August 10 throughout popular primetime programming, including during "Big Brother" and "Fear Factor." A condensed :15 version will air throughout the same time period.
KFC Honey BBQ Boneless Wings are whole pieces of tender white breast meat glazed in KFC's signature sauce. Honey BBQ Wings have the same awesome flavor all the way to the bone. Priced at $2.99 for 7 pieces or $7.99 for 20 pieces (plus tax), both are available for a limited time at participating KFC restaurants.
